History

"The actual name Tidy Island, or Tidy's Island as some of the 'oldtimers' still call it, is probably related to the tides. When the tide was low, island inhabitants could wade across the 'bayou' to the mainland for provisions or to visit friends and relatives" (Chastain Development Corporation, 1985).

From the following aerial photograph, you can see the original beach. Unfortunately, the beach is no longer there due to mangrove plantings to preserve the shoreline. You can also see the salt flats (white areas) of the island. See more photos of the Island salt flats.
